Homework
We consider homework to be a very important part of the learning process.
Besides reinforcing and extending work that has been covered in school, it also helps to develop:
- Self discipline
- Skills of researching and organising work as well as retrieving information from a variety of sources.
We would also hope that homework :
- Encourages the habit of reading relevant material
- Stimulates enjoyment in reading.
In a number of KS4 courses in years 10 and 11, coursework/projects produced by the pupils themselves form an important part of the examination counting for up to 40% of the final marks and here the skills and disciplines developed by homework routines can pay dividends.
At the start of each year, every pupil is given a homework timetable which parents are asked to check and sign – just in case!
There is a homework club which is run by the Learning Mentors every evening except for Friday at 3.00 – 4.00pm to assist all pupils who need help.
