Assessment
At The Swinton High School we believe that regularly assessing all pupils’ work is essential if effective teaching and learning are to take place. Assessment helps staff to identify areas of strength and weakness in learning and to adjust their teaching methods in the light of this.
Pupils at our school are shown how to evaluate their own work and how to identify ways in which they can improve in order to achieve the best possible standard.
Monitoring and Recording
Regularly, throughout the academic year, we formally monitor and record our pupils’ progress. This means that staff can give credit to youngsters for their achievements or can work with both pupils and parents to iron out any problems which may come to light. This monitoring lets you know if your son / daughter is working to the best of their ability.
Reporting
A written report is sent to all parents at least once during the school year. The report contains information about an individual’s achievements, their academic progress and draws attention to particular strengths and weaknesses. The report also gives parents a range of more general information about appearance, attendance and punctuality.
Also, during the year you will be invited into school to meet the staff at a ‘Parents’ Consultation Evening’ when you can discuss your youngster’s performance in each subject area. In addition to this there will be a pupil/parent review day, when you will have an appointment with your child’s form tutor or a member of the year team to talk about your youngster’s progress in relation to targets set at the start of the year.
However, at any time you wish, you can arrange to meet with the Head of Year or any subject staff involved to iron out any problems and, if you have any concerns about progress, we will arrange an individual subject report.
