School Based Police Officer

PC GrimshawPC Grimshaw is a fully operational police officer that works within the community beat office at Swinton Police Station.

His role within the office is as a school based police officer based here at The Swinton High School.

Although based in the school and working a 40-hour week, some of his role involves working in and around the local community, dealing with incidents and local issues.

The overall aims of and objectives are:

  • To reduce crime and victimisation among young people and to reduce the number of incidents of crime in school and the wider community.
  • Develop relationships within the school and the wider community in supporting teachers and other staff within the school environment.
  • To actively support and encourage young people to remain in education, learning and achieving their full potential by developing relationships with staff to improve attendance by addressing both authorised and unauthorised absences.
  • Support vulnerable young people through transition between phases in their education and other aspects of their lives.

An important part of school life is to feel secure and safe within the learning environment and this is an integral part of the school based police officers role. The police work hand in hand with the school policies, including bullying and anti-social behaviour.
