A Christmas Pantomime - Cinderella

Programme from cinderellaIntroduction

This year The Swinton High School decided to try something a little bit out of the ordinary, with the production of a pantomime, remarkably a first for over a decade in our school. Oh, yes it is!! As in the past, we were inundated with pupils eager to perform, with over 150 from all year groups auditioning for parts – however, only the most committed survived the experience.

This version of Cinderella has been written especially for us by Stephen Kerns, our Community and Technical Manager. The students have all worked tirelessly, rehearsing during dinner breaks, after school and indeed at weekends in order to perfect the show – all of this on top of their regular school work and home commitments. Indeed, it was a common experience to find pupils dancing and singing in the yard before school, at lunchtimes and after school as they rehearsed at every available opportunity.

Stephen Kerns said, “This has been one of our most challenging shows to date. Unlike in previous years where we had a predetermined script, singing and dancing routines, this year’s performance has had the added difficulty of comedy – a whole new discipline to master. All in all, we are very proud of the students, who have all done extremely well.”

Our sell out performance of “Cinderella” was performed on the evenings of 18th, 19th and 20th December, as well as 2 matinee performances for the local primary schools.
