BTEC Sport

btec sportWith the ever increasing focus on leading a healthy lifestyle and knowing how to look after the body a course like BTEC Sport is a perfect qualification if you enjoy your physical education lessons at school.

Whatever you enjoy in terms of sport, be it from a participant’s or spectator’s point of view, there are many useful skills that you can develop through this course that will help you in preparation for your future learning or career:

  • Planning and leading activities
  • Working with others on collaborative tasks
  • Communication
  • ICT – using computers to produce coursework
  • Time-management and responsibility in order to meet deadlines

BTEC Sport focuses more on sport rather than physical education.  This course will develop your understanding of the principles which lie behind the way people perform in sport.  You will develop your technical and tactical knowledge of different sports; look at what happens to the body when we get injured and work with others to lead and plan physical activities using as much practical work as possible.

There will be a great emphasis on work-related skills and you will be encouraged to develop your abilities in gathering and evaluating data, investigating important issues and presenting information in different ways.

For the BTEC First Certificate in Sport there are three units of work:

Unit title and description Assessment

PRACTICAL SPORT:

You will study an individual sport and a team sport looking at techniques, tactics, rules, regulations and scoring.

You will produce coursework based on your own performance and that of others producing a logbook, information leaflets and observation sheets.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND INJURY IN SPORT:

You will look at the risks and hazards that are involved in sports participation and how they can be minimised.  You will also consider the illnesses and injuries that can occur and how these can be dealt with.

You will produce coursework based on completing risk assessments, identifying how you will deal with different casualties and writing assignments that analyse the risks that a

PLANNING AND LEADING SPORTS  ACTIVITIES:

You will look at what makes a good sports leader and the factors that are involved with planning and leading practical activities working with and without support in various leadership tasks.

You will produce coursework based on looking at different sports leaders and what skills, qualities and responsibilities they have.  You will plan and produce work based on your own leadership tasks and actually carry out practical activities with different groups of people.

 

100% coursework

 

In order to gain the BTEC First Certificate in Sport you must complete all three units.  This qualification forms the basis for further study with the BTEC First Diploma in Sport.

If you enjoy physical education and more importantly sport, carry on studying it.  It is extremely important that you have an interest in this subject and are willing to work in both practical and theoretical tasks in order to gain good results.
