Religious Studies

religionReligious Studies is a vibrant, informative subject in a world where knowing about others, what they believe and why is very important.

Careers like journalism, law and the caring professions all value the skills RS offers. For example, students get the chance to develop arguing your point of view, understanding others.

GCSE RS lessons offers students the chance to challenge opinions – such as – Is abortion right? Should we legalise euthanasia? The brand new GCSE looks at RS in the modern world.

Lessons involve up-to-date technology such as whiteboards, laptops and educational visits to places of worship and the cinema to focus on films in religion and media.

There are four major topics:

1. Believing in God – why people believe and don’t believe in God.

2. Matters of life and death – is abortion acceptable? What happens when we die?

3. Religion and media – how is religion portrayed on television and film?

4. Social Harmony – why is racism wrong and is marriage out of date?

All work will be assessed by examination – 2 x 2hr exams.
