The School Library

Staffed by our full time librarian, the library has recently moved to a bigger and better location in the school, with a refurbishment costing in the region of £10,000. We offer a fantastic selection of books – fiction, local history, reference and others including biographies, Shakespeare, the supernatural and sport.

This facility is available to pupils throughout the school day and beyond.

Our purpose is to encourage your child towards independent learning. This is done using a programme devised by the school that develops skills in research and information retrieval.

Homework and coursework are crucial to your child’s achievement and they are fully supported within the resource centre. They can both be undertaken from 3.00 – 4.00 in an environment which helps them to research, write AND remember!

For those pupils who can’t wait to get their hands on the latest Harry Potter, we are proud of our excellent choice of the newest fiction and old favourites. Each year the school is part of the Salford Children’s Book Award in which they form the judging panel, along with fellow high school pupils.

For others, who find reading more of a challenge, there is a dedicated Reading Programme, which has always got results in improving reading age and confidence – something few children can successfully learn without.

Research has demonstrated that an integrated approach to teaching information literacy, led by the librarian, can help pupils achieve higher levels of success.
