Things to do in the library

This area of the website is currently being updated in conjunction with Mrs Tennant, Mrs Gibson and the student librarians. If you have any particular ideas of what you may want in this section, please let one of them know.

Why not write a review of a book you have read and let others know what you thought! Simply pass the review on to Mrs Gibson in the library and she will do the rest.

You can see our first book review here

We will be running a monthly competition for "Book review of the month". Starting soon, there will be a prize for the person who writes the best review. The review can be about any book that you have read from the library - just let us know what you thought about it.

Homework Help

Did you know that there is a homework club that runs in the library, every Monday to Thursday, 3.00 - 4.00pm?

Come along for as long as you need to start or finish your homework. The year managers are on hand to help you and check your work with you.

You can use the internet, print out and research. There are books written specifically for pupils studying the national curriculum, so it makes sense to use them

Plan what you need. Use the contents and index pages to help. Write down the title of the book so that you can track it down if you need it again.

So come along, you never know - homework could even become enjoyable!!!!

NEW - Homework Guides

The idea here is to have some pupils to act as a homework guide for you. The pupil will volunteer and have a real interest in the topic or subject that you are studying. They will 'guide' you around the library, pointing out and reviewing books in the library that you may find interesting as well as useful in completing your homework and coursework.

At the moment, we only have one 'guide' - Jacob, who has volunteered to be the history guide. If you would like to be a guide or help guide a subject area, please see Mrs Gibson in the library.

To give you some idea of what we are looking for, here is Jacob's 'Guide' to History:

Hi, my name is Jacob and I love history!

I have recently started my own website, and it will be launched soon - watch this space!!

I have used loads of history books from the library. They have to be helpful for me in my studies, but also entertain me. The library has a series of resources such as websites / CDroms / books to help you with your history homework.

This term I have done about The Battle of Hastings and how William Duke of Normandy became King and ruled England.

You could use these books to help you:

'The Battle of Hastings' @ 942.02
'Norman Invaders and Settlers' @ 942.02
'Invasion, Plague and Murder' @ 942.

You can find these books in the History section of the library.
