Science

a science lessonAims

We aim to provide a friendly but firm and fair atmosphere that will allow all pupils to achieve their potential. By working in ability sets, skills, concepts and pace can be appropriate and challenging.

What will I study?

Practical work is emphasised, with observation and measurement skills leading to recording, interpreting and decision-making skills. Pupils are then taught investigative skills, which they can apply to questions that they ask. Literacy, numeracy and ICT skills augment the practical work.

How will I be monitored and assessed?

Formative assessment during lessons, with verbal feedback from the teacher is supplemented by written comments to support pupil progress. Assessed homework for each unit of work and end of term tests quantify the success and all scores are logged. Periodically the results are compared with the targets set so that success can be celebrated with praise and underperformance challenged.

What will happen in KS4?

In key stage 4, pupils study science, additional science or can opt for separate sciences.
